our story
Ohio Valley Bison is a proudly family owned and operated bison farm located in Cadiz, Ohio - right in the heart of Harrison County! We are located within 50 miles of Dover, New Philadelphia, Saint Clairsville, and Steubenville, and we are bordered by Tuscarawas, Belmont, Jefferson, Guernsey, and Carroll Counties. We are able to ship our meat locally to surrounding communities and counties, and we are able to ship out of state! If you are interested in more information about shipping, please contact us!
With over 20 years and three generations worth of knowledge about bison and farming, we are committed to making sure that our herd receives nothing but the best care we can provide them with. Our bison are grass fed year-round using a grazing method called management-intensive grazing (also called “rotational grazing”). We also provide our herd with hay in the winter when it is more difficult for them to forage due to the weather conditions. This provides the best quality for our meat, as it will contain less unhealthy fat than grain fed animals.
To ensure we provide our customers with the highest quality bison meat we possibly can, we do not give our herd any artificial growth hormones or anything else that could affect the quality of the meat. Other than the occasional loaves of bread and apples given to them on special occasions, our herd is on a strict grass-only diet. All bison meat sold by Ohio Valley Bison is USDA inspected and certified in order to ensure its quality remains the highest it can be. We also do not add any pork or other additives to our meat!
Supporting fellow small businesses is important to us here at Ohio Valley Bison. We raise our animals locally in Cadiz, Ohio, and we butcher and process them through a butcher shop located in Dalton, Ohio. We raise and process our animals locally and humanely, in accordance to the high standards set by the National Bison Association.
Every year, per the standards of the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Animal Health, our bison are vaccinated to help prevent them from catching different illnesses and bacteria, such as pink eye and Clostridium. These vaccinations do not affect the quality of our meat and cannot be transferred to you through consumption of the meat. We provide these vaccines to our herd to ensure that they are as happy and healthy as can be!
Our goal here at Ohio Valley Bison is to provide our customers with nothing less than the highest quality bison meat we can. If you have any questions for us, please do not hesitate to contact us! We always look forward to enhancing peoples’ knowledge on America’s National Mammal!
